Health policies have faced and will continue to face serious tension as a result of economic adjustments. This means that more than ever, the priorities in health policies must be decided correctly. This involves choosing which policies should be applied by any administration here and now. To do this, the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administrations (SESPAS)and the Esteve Foundation are organizing on 10 July 2015 in Barcelona, the debate Definition of priorities in health policies, in which 13 health experts from different disciplines will discuss the methodology to set priorities in the health policy in Spain.
These policies should cover those that are not related directly to health, but affect it; those concerning public health that reduce the burden of preventable diseases; and finally, health service policies that guarantee that these services operate correctly, they are applied with maximum coverage and with the use of suitable technologies, while unnecessary or inefficient ones are avoided.
The task of choosing priorities is complex and it is appropriate to debate which is the most suitable method of selection and communication. The debate will therefore include participants with viewpoints from different sectors: public policies related indirectly to health, public health policies, health service policies, users or user organizations, and companies involved in health.
Coordinated by Ildefonso Hernández, chairman of SESPAS, the debate Definition of priorities in health policies will include the participation of the following experts:
